Universal Credit and benefit changes
The government is introducing major changes to the benefits system across the country. This means there will be changes to different benefits like council tax discount reductions, housing benefit, disability living allowance and six income-related benefits will be brought together in one single payment called Universal Credit. Please read on, watch our information video and follow the links below to find out more...
If you are receiving housing benefit and are of working age, you may lose some benefits under new Government rules coming into effect. You can call our free benefit advisors to find out more and have your questions answered - call freephone 0800 692 3000.
We're visiting customers at home to help explain the changes, which include:
- Move to a single benefits system called Universal Credit expected to come in from September 2015 for new single claimants and on a phased basis for existing claimants after. It's for working age people only; those of pension credit age are not affected
- All claimants of Universal Credit will need to apply online and have a bank account, so we are working to help customers prepare. Please click here for some information about making a Universal Credit claim
- Read the latest news in our editions of Benefit Matters.
