Retirement living

This information explains about our accommodation and support for customers who are retired.

We are committed to meeting the needs of people who require extra help and support to maintain their independence, or require housing with special features (such as disability adaptations).

Retirement living in our sheltered or extra support housing is ideal for older people who need smaller, more manageable accommodation, with the reassurance that help is always available in an emergency through a fitted alarm system and a range of support to help with daily living, such as meals and staff on duty or on call.

Features of our accommodation

Customers have a right to privacy behind their own front door but are also able to join in activities and events whenever they wish to get the benefit of the local community.

Accommodation is unfurnished so residents are able to take familiar items with them.

These are some of the amenities and facilities offered at our retirement living schemes:

Looking for sheltered accommodation

If you are thinking of downsizing or if you have older relatives you'd like to be nearer to you, why not enquire about our retirement living sheltered schemes, which is available to anyone over the age of 60 (or some schemes agaed 55 years old or over, subject to assessment) with a low level of support need can apply for retirement living accommodation. You can find out more by calling us on 01344 382800 or you can apply by visiting the Council's Choice Based Lettings website by clicking here.

To apply for housing, you must first register on the Council's housing register. To find out more about joining the housing register please contact Housing Options at Bracknell Forest Council on 01344 352009 to make an appointment, or click here to visit the Council's website.

Transfer incentive scheme

If you are thinking of downsizing, we can offer incentives and support for your move.

Existing customers are eligible for our transfer incentive scheme (TIS) when moving from family-sized accommodation (two and three bedroom flats, and two, three and four bedroom houses) to a one bedroom flat, one or two bedroom bungalow or into sheltered accommodation.

Mutual exchange moves are also eligible for the transfer incentive if both the properties are owned and managed by Bracknell Forest Homes.

We also consider offering the transfer incentive to customers who move from properties with significant special adaptations where the adaptations are no longer needed by the customer or any member of their family, and are required by others waiting for accommodation.

Customers are only entitled to the transfer incentive scheme once.
