“The course gave me focus and confidence to keep applying for suitable roles. I would highly recommend it to anyone.”
A new course to help people into work is starting this autumn (September 19) for anyone looking to get long term employment and training opportunities.
Bracknell Forest Homes is running the Pathfinders programme at their Berkshire Court Office in Western Road. Anyone can pop in for a chat with a tutor to find out more.
Linda Wells, Housing and Community Services Director, said: “We recognise the employment market is challenging and that, for a variety of reasons, people may need some help to boost confidence, create CVs, apply and interview for jobs.
“The Pathfinder course works with individuals to identify their potential and unlock some of the barriers they may have experienced in the past. We help them to find long term opportunities. We have staff who will support you, and also run a job hub every week.
“Since we’ve been running the course, 48% of customers supported by Bracknell Forest Homes employment programme have gained jobs.”
People join the Pathfinders course for a variety of reasons including wishing to seek employment after having raised a family or having taken a career break, or they may be looking for a change of career or struggling with digital job searching and applications.
Patricia Blyth joined Pathfinders after she was made redundant. Her confidence was knocked - she didn’t feel very prepared for the interviews and she felt her CV needed an update.
She commented: “The course gave me focus and confidence to keep applying for suitable roles. I would highly recommend it to anyone.”
“When I attended the first session, not really knowing what to expect, I was greeted very warmly by the course leader and the other participants. The whole experience was friendly, fun and informative. The course taught me how to talk positively about myself, helped me to create a professional CV and gave me confidence when attending interviews.
“I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to get back into the job market. I now have a job which has boosted my confidence in my own abilities as it is exactly what I enjoy.”
Pathfinders sessions are free and run for four weeks, with ongoing support from our employment advice co-ordinator. The open day is available to all local residents of any age and experience on a first come, first served basis. Bracknell Forest Homes’ customers will receive first priority for places on the programme.
Residents can book to join the open day or find out more about the programme by calling the housing association’s community investment team on 01344 382833 or email by clicking here.
The Pathfinder Training Programme is an innovative, energetic and very flexible interactive learning programme packed with personal, business and life skills using real-world activities and scenarios. Supported by employers, it is a realistic, yet dynamic approach to personal development that quickly builds the skills, qualities and confidence in people that employers really look for.
The sessions are trainer-led, interactive, informative and fun. Each session is supported by individual and group activities covering all learning styles designed to enhance the learning up-take as participants find the information easy to assimilate and put into practice. We cover a range of personal development and employability skills over six sessions that provide simple, practical and highly effective strategies to positively impact participants from day one.
By the end of the programme, everyone leaves with their own high quality, job specific CV, tailored covering letters, job-readiness / interview check lists and details of the best job searches/tools for the roles they are interested in. Participants attending all sessions of the Programme also receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course. We provide ongoing support as people transition into employment, continue to progress with their job searching activities and revisit any areas people would like to cover again.
