New film on home improvements

The major works programme and an innovative LED lighting scheme feature in a short film.

The new light emitting diode (LED) lighting scheme at Ladybank flats in Birch Hill will be shown on screens around the borough and online at Bracknell Forest Partnership's website to promote low energy usage and brighter and safer lighting. The film shows installations of new kitchens, bathrooms, windows and heating to May 2010. More details on the full five year programme can be found here.

The new lights were installed by Bracknell Forest Homes in each of the communal hallways at Ladybank flats to give residents brighter lighting, more security and save energy. The LED technology saves energy, which will reduce bills, and they will last five years, which saves maintenance.

Miss Hancock who lives at Ladybank, commented: “The new lighting is a lot better and I am very pleased with it. The improved lighting is safer and brighter.” The new lighting improvements will result in savings in carbon emissions and reduced energy bills. This means the money saved can be invested in other services to customers and the installation of emergency lighting.

The Community TV film is part of Bracknell Forest Partnership’s scheme to provide information and promote energy efficiency. The films are due to be shown from June at screens in leisure centres, doctor surgeries and cafes at Morrisons, Waterstones and Wyevale, and on Bracknell Forest Homes and Bracknell Forest Partnership’s websites.

Also featured in the energy film is a Sandhurst home, where Bracknell Forest Homes has fitted a new kitchen, bathroom, windows and heating. This is part of the housing association’s £61 million five year improvement programme to bring all homes up to modern standards. The programme includes 3,300 new kitchens, 3,500 new bathrooms, windows for 1,560 homes and heating replacements in 3,600 homes.

Caroline Titley, Chief Executive of Bracknell Forest Homes, added: “We were pleased to support the Bracknell Forest Partnership’s Community TV film, which showcases an excellent scheme that improves the area for residents while also reducing energy emissions and saving in costs. It is an innovative scheme that was supported by the Energy Saving Trust.”
