Landscaping services
Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping look after all the green areas managed by Bracknell Forest Homes, including the estates and sheltered housing schemes as well as providing a garden assistance scheme for elderly people or people who cannot look after their gardens. Bracknell Forest has many green open spaces, many of which are owned and managed by Bracknell Forest Homes. We aim to keep these in the best possible condition for all our residents and visitors to enjoy.
The landscaping programme and our standards
We will:
- cut the grass 14 times a year throughout the growing season (March to October) – dependant upon weather and growing conditions
- strim grass as close as possible to walls, fences and other obstacles monthly from March to October
- cut the face and top of hedges outside of the bird nesting season and remove cuttings twice a year
- cultivate borders twice a year and check for litter or debris and trim growth if it is causing a hazard once a month between March and October
- prune shrubs annually or bi-annually or more frequently if causing a hazard
- collect and remove leaves twice a year
- maintain the trees as necessary on an individual basis.
Estates grass is cut about 14 times a year between March and October. Ride on mowers are used followed by pedestrian mowers and strimmers to cut any smaller or difficult to access areas. We also pick up litter and keep the pathways neat.
Maintaining the borders is done in the winter and summer. During winter, weeds are cleared and borders and beds are pruned. During the summer there is a monthly litter pick and maintenance of overgrowing on footpaths. Hedging is cut twice a year in June (to allow for nesting birds) and October.
Sheltered schemes are maintained in the same cycles as the estates but we also plant beds twice a year with around 5,000 plants. Spring bedding is planted in September and October and the summer bedding is planted in May and June. We also put up 54 hanging baskets. The garden assistance scheme is a service Bracknell Forest Homes offers to help older people or people with disabilities to maintain their gardens.
Landscaping Forum
A new Landscape Forum has been set up for Bracknell Forest Homes customers. Its purpose is to work in partnership to consider issues specifically relating to the landscape surrounding our estates and homes, and in particular to:
- consider strategic decisions about how Bracknell Forest Homes manages and maintains it communal landscape areas
- consider how Bracknell Forest Homes organises and manages the landscaping service
- discuss landscaping issues with their neighbours, in order to gather the views of their neighbours in relation to landscape issues
- promote the work of the Landscape Forum and Bracknell Forest Homes’ landscaping service
- make applications for external funding in agreement with Bracknell Forest Homes.
