With the wonderful economic and energy saving advantages offered by the double glazed window units fitted in your home comes your responsibility for looking after them.
Should the units be damaged in any way that is not caused by normal wear and tear, you will probably be charged for any repairs or replacement that is required. It is important that you do not drill holes into the frames or paint them.
The PVCu windows are made and installed to a standard not less than that set out in the approved code of practice. However, regular maintenance of mechanical components will reduce wear and tear and prolong serviceable life.
Adjustment
In order to maintain correct cavity dimensions or weatherseal compression, adjustment is provided within most hardware available.
The recommended frequency is twice yearly - ideally in Spring and Autumn.
Cleaning your windows
Handles and other items which are visible from inside, or out once the sash is closed, should be cleaned with a mild solution of warm soapy water, applied with a soft cloth. Dry thoroughly afterwards.
Parts exposed when the window/door is open, including strikers, should be wiped down to remove all residues of old lubricants and grime. Sealing cams and strikers should be given a small smear of petroleum jelly. Sliding bars and faceplate of any drive gear should have a maintenance spray such as MILA Maintenance Spray SMS 1-11 applied.
Care must be taken not to damage the surfaces of the windows. Abrasive cleaning agents and lubricants containing corrosive substances must never be used.
